Preventive Dentistry:
The milk teeth line and the following mixed teeth line develop during the most active period of the child's growth. The first milk tooth begins to erupt in the 6th month. Different groups of milk teeth fall out from time to time and are replaced by permanent milk teeth. This condition lasts until the age of 12. In this process, early loss of milk teeth can affect jaw development and lead to aesthetic and speech disorders. All treatments applied to permanent teeth can also be applied to primary teeth.
The treatment of children's teeth falls under the field of pedodontics and this field is a separate branch of dentistry that requires an expert approach. In addition, the skeletal jaw development of the child should be kept under control by an orthodontist. Our clinic takes measures and applies treatments to ensure that children in the developmental age have a healthy tooth and mouth structure with their specialist physicians.
Effective protection against tooth decay
The other two preventive treatment methods are fissure sealant, which means "closing caries-prone areas with topical fluoride", which is applied to increase the resistance of primary teeth to caries. When the child reaches the age of 6, the first permanent tooth, the first molar, takes its place in the mouth. These teeth, which function the longest and most, must be protected against caries with fissure sealant topical fluoride application.
Early prevention for dental health
Early precautions and small preventive interventions enable children to smile smoothly in later ages. As a result of all these, it is necessary to give great importance to oral and dental health in children with milk teeth. The parents are completely responsible for the oral and dental health of the children for the first 6 years. During this period, children should be taught the importance of oral and dental health.
Aesthetic Dentistry
Memorial Health Group Hospitals Oral and Dental Health Centers offer various solutions not only in the treatment of oral and dental health problems, but also in oral and dental aesthetics. It is possible to provide a new smile to the patient with laminate, porcelain veneers, gingival arrangements and whitening methods. Applications in the field of aesthetic dentistry are as follows:
Smile Design: If you are not satisfied with your smile, you can see the procedures to be done on your teeth with the help of computer. With the help of cosmetic imaging programs, you can have an idea about the smile you will have after the procedure, by transferring your photos taken before the procedure to the computer and digitally processing them without any treatment on your teeth.
Bleaching: The discoloration caused by the structure of the teeth, which cannot be removed by superficial cleaning processes such as brushing teeth or cleaning the tartar, can be removed by teeth whitening (bleaching) method. Teeth Whitening System, which provides permanent cleaning without damaging your teeth, is now at Memorial Hospital!
In teeth whitening, Light Emitting Diode method is applied with LED, light source and special whitening gel. In the LED method, which is the product of an advanced technology, the success of eliminating the sensitivity after the application is at high levels. While the hydrogen perolmite rate, which was 38 percent in the bleaching system applied so far, decreased to 15 percent, the satisfaction with LED increased to 100 percent. While getting 8 times whiter teeth with the LED method, the application takes one hour. The Whitening System, whose reliability has been proven by clinical studies conducted in the USA, does not harm tooth enamel and fillings. It is also completely painless.
Laminate Veneers:
Completing this procedure takes about three stages.
1. In the first appointment, the smile design you want to have is studied, the smile you want to have is decided by choosing the one that suits you among many smiles with computer-aided smile design.
2. In your next visit, your teeth will be shaped and their models will be prepared, and at this stage, they will be tested in your mouth and it will be decided whether they are suitable.
3. Porcelain veneers, whose color was adjusted in your last visit, are adhered.
Porcelain laminate veneers are the most effective and conservative method to change tooth color, size and shape. They are adhered to the anterior tooth surface to mask bad discolorations or change the shape of the teeth and are resistant to recoloration.
Porcelain laminate veneers are very thin porcelain leaves and are adhered to the front surfaces of the teeth by a process called bonding. This procedure is like fake nails. Their thickness is no more than the thickness of a lens and it is a conservative and harmless process as very little abrasion is done from the tooth surface.
To change your smile and make it more pleasant, laminate veneers may be the ideal solution for you. This procedure, which does not even require anesthesia, can be an alternative solution to have whiter teeth, close discolorations, and improve your smile. In addition, after it is made, it shows high resistance to coffee, tea and even cigarette discoloration and does not color again. Aesthetically, it is incomparably superior to other restorative options.
Prosthetic Dentistry
Metal-Free Full Porcelain Crowns
Metal-free crowns are made of reinforced porcelain. Although many things affect the appearance of crowns, the most important is their response to light. Natural teeth transmit light. As a result, depth and vitality appear in the tooth. Due to the light transmission properties of metal-free porcelain crowns (full porcelain), their depth and vitality are greater, so that the closest results to natural teeth are obtained.
Applied for natural looking teeth
While full porcelains create an aesthetic very similar to the natural tooth structure since they transmit light, there is a dullness and artificiality in metal porcelains, even if they are very well made. For this reason, full porcelains are preferred especially for anterior teeth. Metal-supported porcelains give a dark space image in some lights (disco, camera flash, etc.) as if it were not in the mouth. Full porcelains, on the other hand, pass all kinds of light just like natural teeth.
Porcelain tooth application without the risk of allergies
Metal-backed porcelains are mechanically bonded to the tooth. Full porcelain is attached to the tooth mechanically and chemically. Therefore, their retention is much higher than metal supports. Since there is no metal in its substructure, there is no dark line at the crown - gingival level. A more aesthetic appearance is provided. When the gingiva recedes, full porcelain preserves their aesthetic appearance, while metal porcelains create a bad appearance in the area where they are combined with the tooth. There is no risk of allergy to some metals (nickel, etc.) used in the infrastructure in full porcelain.
Metal Supported Bridges
Bridges Without Metal Support are obtained by compressing the reinforced porcelain in special machines. It is preferred especially in anterior teeth because of its very good light transmittance.
Metal-Free Zirconium-Based Bridges
In this system, zirconium alloy, which is a white color, is used instead of metal as the infrastructure. The biggest advantage of the system is to provide a full aesthetic appearance on the bridges in the posterior region, with its very high durability.
Total-Partial Prostheses
Prostheses applied to those who have no teeth or missing teeth both give a natural tooth appearance and prevent oral health from being adversely affected. Two different methods are applied for the prosthesis:
Total Prostheses
Total dentures are an application that can be done if there are no teeth left in your mouth. They are dental prostheses, also known as 'palatal prosthesis', made of acrylic, which can stay in the mouth with the vacuum force by taking support over the bone tissue remaining in the lower and upper jaws. It is difficult to use under normal conditions, it finds application in cases where special health conditions are valid where implants cannot be made. Today, modern dentistry has not used much at the point it has reached today. It is necessary to renew it every 5 years. It is not generally correct to use porcelain teeth in total dentures in terms of health, therefore plastic teeth are used, but they can cause discoloration. For this, you can clean your prosthesis with special preparations sold in pharmacies to clean it.
Partial Prosthesis
Partial dentures complete your smile by filling the gaps caused by missing teeth. However, partial dentures not only aesthetically but also functionally help you to fulfill the chewing function that is not performed properly due to missing teeth. It also helps you to pronounce words more properly by eliminating phonetic problems that occur in your speech. It also supports the lips and cheeks by providing the tissue support lost due to the lack of teeth, and in this way, the collapse and sagging of the face can be eliminated. Partial denture is an application that can be attached and removed when there are many missing teeth and if implant or fixed bridge prostheses cannot be made as a solution. This prosthesis can be attached to the teeth in the mouth by means of clasps, or they can be attached with sensitive retainers hidden inside with crowns made on the teeth, giving a more aesthetic appearance.
Orthodontics
Orthodontics is a branch of science that deals with the correction of crooked teeth and the elimination of incompatibilities in the teeth, jaw and face. Correcting the crookedness of the teeth not only provides an important aesthetic, but also contributes to oral and dental health. By removing the crowding, these areas can be cleaned more easily and effectively, thus preventing caries and gingival diseases. In addition, since the closing of the teeth and jaws with each other will be corrected, a healthier chewing function will be gained. When children are approximately 7 years old, they should be evaluated by an orthodontist.
Orthodontic treatment steps are as follows:
1. Fixed orthodontic appliances: It is a form of treatment with brackets attached to the tooth. Brackets can be made of metal or porcelain. Tooth-colored porcelain brackets do not cause any discomfort aesthetically.
2. Removable orthodontic appliances: These are appliances that the patient can put on and take off himself. They are applied in simpler cases.
3. Jaw orthopedics: It is a field of orthodontics that aims to correct the deteriorated relations of the lower and upper jaws with each other with special appliances worn on the face at young ages. Most of the time, orthopedic treatment (the alignment of the jaws is ensured) and the orthodontic treatment (the closure of the teeth is provided) are carried out together.
4. Orthognathic surgery: Orthognathic surgery is used in cases that cannot be corrected with orthodontic or orthopedic treatment. Jaw and face disorders can occur congenitally or later due to accidents and diseases. The incompatibility of the jaws with respect to each other and the face causes both aesthetic and functional disorders in patients. With the advanced technology and surgical techniques, these disorders can be corrected.
5. Invisalign: In some simple cases, crowding can now be corrected by using transparent molds without using brackets. It is necessary to wear these patient-specific molds, which will be changed every two weeks, for approximately 20 hours a day. Each treatment requires an average of 60 pairs (lower-upper jaw) different corrective molds. The duration of treatment is close to the duration of treatment with brackets. It varies between 6 months and 24 months depending on the case.
Orthodontics in Adults: There is no age limit for orthodontic treatment. Orthodontic treatment can be applied to anyone with healthy bones surrounding the teeth. In addition, brackets are now made of tooth-colored porcelain. So that no one can easily notice your braces. The treatment lasts between 3 months and 30 months, depending on the patient's problem and age.
Gum Diseases
Gum diseases (Periodontal diseases) are diseases that affect the gums and other tissues that support the teeth. Periodontal diseases are responsible for 70% of tooth loss in adults. Periodontal diseases can be treated easily and successfully when diagnosed at an early stage. Periodontal diseases begin with gingivitis. Gingivitis is the early stage of periodontal disease. During this period, the gums are bleeding, red and enlarged in volume. It may not cause much discomfort in the early period. Bleeding during tooth brushing is the most important symptom. If left untreated, the disease may progress to periodontitis and cause irreversible damage to the gingiva and alveolar bone supporting the teeth. In addition, the biggest disadvantage of gum diseases is that it causes bad breath.
Periodontitis; It is a more advanced stage of periodontal disease. Damage occurs in the alveolar bone along with other tissues that support the teeth. A "periodontal pocket" is formed between the tooth and the gingiva. The presence of periodontal pocket facilitates the localization of the infection and the progression of the disease. As the disease progresses, the teeth begin to loosen and tooth loss may occur. However, periodontal disease can reach advanced stages without any symptoms. For this reason, it is extremely important to visit the dentist at regular intervals.
Treatment of gum diseases
Treatment of gingival diseases includes removing the attachments (plaque and tartar) on the teeth and providing a smooth root surface. This process ensures the removal of bacteria and irritants that cause inflammation in the gingiva. Usually, this treatment is sufficient for the gingiva to adapt to the tooth again or to shrink the gingiva and eliminate the pocket. In the majority of cases in the early stages of gingival disease, daily effective oral care is sufficient for successful treatment, following tartar removal, removal of plaque and ensuring a smooth root surface. More advanced cases may require surgical treatment. The aim of this treatment is to clean the calculus in the deep periodontal pockets surrounding the teeth, to eliminate the pocket by shrinking and to provide a smooth root surface and to create a more easily cleanable gingival form.
Regular control is a must in gum diseases
After periodontal treatment, patients should be regularly examined by a dentist, plaque control and new tartar deposits should be removed from the environment. But it should not be forgotten that; No process can be more beneficial for the maintenance of what has been achieved with periodontal treatment than the effective application of daily oral care procedures.
implantology
Implants are small titanium pieces placed in the jawbone to complete missing teeth. These parts act as natural tooth roots. They are placed in the jawbone with a simple surgical procedure. Since titanium is tissue-friendly, the bone surrounds the implant and creates a solid foundation for the teeth to be made. After the impression and rehearsal stages, new teeth are prepared for use and your missing teeth are removed without damaging your natural teeth.
Outstanding success with implant
Implants also preserve the shape of the face, as they prevent bone loss in the absence of teeth. Implants are usually placed in two stages. In the first stage, the implant is placed in your jawbone. In the following 2-4 months, the compatibility of the implant with the jawbone is expected. When the implants are fixed to your jawbone, the second stage is passed. The tops of the implants are opened and small metal parts that will support your permanent dentures are attached to the implants. Your prostheses will look very natural when placed on them. With this method, your other natural teeth are not damaged, only the missing teeth are filled. While implants provide better speech and chewing function than traditional bridges and prostheses, they also bring a natural appearance to your face. When applied with correct diagnosis, sufficient knowledge, experience and equipment, dental implants are a form of treatment that can give exceptionally successful results for the patient and the physician.
Filling
Bacterial plaque, which consists of bacteria in the mouth and their sticky secretion dextran, creates acid from the residues of sugary and floury foods in the mouth. These acids dissolve the mineral tissue of the teeth, causing the enamel of the tooth to deteriorate and eventually the onset of tooth decay. The first sign of tooth decay is a white stain on the tooth surface. At this stage, the bruise can be stopped and returned. The white spot shows in which part of the enamel there is mineral loss. After a while, the mineral loss becomes large enough to open a hole. If this loss continues, the soft inner parts of the tooth are also affected and the destructive process accelerates. The treatment will be a large filling at best.
Filling Types
Composite Fillings: Composite fillings are tooth-colored fillings used for caries, fractures and aesthetic purposes. These fillings are placed in the prepared cavities layer by layer and each layer is hardened with a special light. They are aesthetic and economical. They do not cause unnecessary material loss in the tooth as they can hold onto the tooth with a special adhesive called bonding. Since there may be a small shrinkage during hardening, their life is not as long as porcelain fillings. Composite fillings may change color depending on the use of substances containing coloring agents such as cigarettes, tea, coffee, cola, soy.
Porcelain Fillings (Inlay / Onlay Fillings): Porcelain fillings are fillings with superior aesthetics and durability prepared in the laboratory. Compared to composite fillings, they are much more compatible with the tooth they are applied to and adjacent teeth. This is due to the fact that the filling is prepared outside the mouth in a laboratory environment. After the broken, rotten or old filled part of the tooth is removed, the measurement of the remaining healthy part is taken and sent to the laboratory. The model, which is prepared with a sensitive technology in the laboratory environment, is taken to a special IPS machine and fillings with perfect aesthetics and functions are obtained.
Root Canal Treatment
Root canal treatment is the removal of the nerves that cause pain by cleaning the pulp of the tooth. Although extraction is a cheaper treatment method, the loss of a healthy tooth creates a gap that is difficult to fill, this gap becomes a more expensive and difficult treatment with bridge prosthesis or implant application.
Purpose of root canal treatment:
The purpose of root canal treatment is to clean the problematic parts of the teeth, which may be lost due to caries, to keep them in the mouth for a longer period of time, and to prevent further treatments that will force you both financially and morally due to tooth loss. The remaining tooth by performing root canal treatment in the mouth will continue to help chewing in that area, and in this way, it will also prevent the melting of the jaw bones, while the bone in that area remains active.
What happens if root canal treatment is not done?
In cases where the pulp cannot heal itself due to deep caries and cracks, the tooth loses its vitality and the infection can spread to the whole tooth. If root canal treatment is not performed, the infection can reach the tissues at the root tip. The jawbone surrounding the tooth is also inflamed and eroded. An abscess is formed in this space. This picture is accompanied by pain and swelling, and the tooth is lost in a short time.
How is root canal treatment applied?
Treatment may take between 1-3 sessions depending on the condition of the tooth. During treatment, the dentist removes the diseased pulp, disinfects, widens, shapes the root canals, and finally seals it tightly. In some cases, medication may also be placed in the pulp chamber and root canals to destroy bacteria. In severe cases of infection, the dentist may recommend taking oral medication as well.
Oral-Tooth-Jaw Diseases and Surgery
The oral and maxillofacial surgery interventions we perform in our dental clinic are as follows:
Orthognathic Surgery:
It is a procedure applied in cases where the lower and upper jaws do not meet and do not close correctly. The positions of your teeth are corrected with orthodontics and the jaws are surgically
brought to their normal relations. It is a very important application in terms of performing the functions of the teeth in a healthy way as well as the aesthetic appearance.
Impacted Wisdom Teeth:
An adult person has a total of 32 teeth in his mouth. Each of these teeth undertakes a separate task. While the teeth at the front of the mouth (incisors, canines, premolars) are used to cut and shred food; The back teeth (molars) grind food so it can be swallowed easily. However, many times our mouth is big enough to accommodate only 28 teeth, and our remaining 4 3rd molars (also known as wisdom teeth or wisdom teeth) often cause us various problems.
The danger in the impacted wisdom tooth
When these teeth erupt properly and the gums are healthy, they can remain in the mouth. Unfortunately this doesn't always happen. They drive crooked by not being able to fully open the gingiva. Sometimes they are completely buried under the gums. A wisdom tooth stuck in the jawbone changes position in various ways, looking for a place to drive, but cannot find it. When the tooth cannot fully erupt, bacteria easily settle on the semi-opened gingiva around it and inflammation begins. When crooked, it puts pressure on other teeth and can disrupt a straight tooth row. The most important problem that may arise is the melting of the jawbone due to the cyst and tumor that will form around the impacted wisdom tooth.
Treatment for 20-year-old teeth
All these problems are treated by removing the tooth. Early removal of wisdom teeth is a practice that we recommend in order to prevent problems that may arise in the future.
Facial Traumas
Facial injuries are physical and mental traumas for patients. Facial injuries can have various causes: Motor vehicle accidents, sports injuries, work accidents, etc. As a result of these injuries; Many conditions can develop from simple bone fractures to complicated jaw fractures.
